The Founder of the art of Thai Massage is Jivaka Kumarabhacca, a close friend of Buddha and physician for the first Buddhist monks.Burma’s invasion of Thailand resulted in the distraction of a lot of Temples, Buddha’s images and ancient medical text. In 1832 King Rama III had the surviving traditional knowledge carved into the stone walls of the Wat Po (temple) in Bangkok, thus preserving the knowledge for the benefit of future generations. Until recently the art of Thai Massage was mainly taught to Monks.
